It all started:
1981: Randy & Karen Sowers begin farming...
Started by renting farm from Everett Moser and 100 milk cows.
1984: Barn fire: roof of the milking parlor was lost.
1987: Purchased the farm from Everett Moser, and placed farm in to Maryland's Land Preservation.
1989: Purchased beef herd & tornado strikes the farm, taking off roof of calf barn.
1991: Built chicken house where we housed 110,000 laying hens.
1997: The Sowers' daughter Abby Sowers gets married to Tony Brusco.
2001: South Mountain Creamery is built and opens its doors in April 2001. We begin home deliveries in May 2001 with 13 home delivery customers.
Tony & Abby Brusco welcome Gabriel Micheal Brusco, the first grandchild in July 2001.
2003: The Sowers' son Ben gets married to Kate Miller.
2004: Ben & Kate Sowers welcome Samuel Dwight Sowers in Feb 2004. Tony & Abby Brusco welcome Sophia Isabella Brusco in June 2004.
2004: South Mountain Creamery breaks record: 1000 home delivery customers, in a 50 mile radius of our farm, a dream come true!
2006: The Sowers and Brusco families are recognized as the Large Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Ben & Kate Sowers welcome Jereamiah Douglas Sowers in July.
December: 200 New customers from Potomac Dairy Service join us in areas of North and South Potomac and Bethesda.
2007: South Mountain Creamery remodels milk plant and installs new equipment (HTST, Homogenizer, Bottle Filler, Bottle Washer, Separator and Milk Tanks)
Featured in Dairy Bussiness Mag ( cover), Washington Post, and the NY Times.
South Mountain Creamery breaks another record: 2200 Home delivery customers at the end of 2007.
